June 11: Lake District, Glasgow and Crianlarich

 The first scenic journey of the day is from BIF to CAR around the coast of the Lake District taking in Sellafield, Millom (more below) and Whitehaven where my eldest brother-in-law married and settled.

Kirkby-in-Furness
My father often mentioned Millom as a place he went to during school holidays to stay with his aunt. I don't think he was keen on the place although he mentioned a beach and boats.

About halfway round the coast is Sellafield

From CAR I took a Pendolino (tilting) train to GLC with lunch provided.

At GLC I took the free bus from just outside the station which takes passengers direct to GLQ from which my next train would depart.
The 398 GLC<->GLQ bus
I could easily have walked it in 10 minutes but I had a valid ticket, my Rail Rover, so I used it. On the down side, I now had well over an hour to wait and I'd just had lunch on the previous train. On reflection I should have gone to the First Class Lounge in GLC for a free drink and snack before venturing to GLQ.

Eventually my train was announced and off we go to CNR, it's still a nice day and the scenery becomes more and more picturesque as we travel north.

These signs are needed on stations with only one platform.
There are two exits from CNR station and I took the wrong one. This took me down into the village and the main road before climbing back up the hill to the hotel. My room overlooked the main road but this wasn't a problem, I doubt if there were more than a few vehicles and hour and I heard nothing at all overnight.
